3m travellers forget insurance

Over 3 million travellers do not take out travel insurance, according to new research.
Sainsbury's Bank has found that 13 per cent of those who holiday abroad do not get themselves any cover and are putting themselves at a serious financial risk.
Those most likely to forget this important part of travel were found to be travellers under the age of 24, with over a million people in this age group heading on holiday without insurance.
However, at the other end of the age spectrum almost half a million travellers over 65 forgot insurance.
Karen Preston, of Sainsbury's Bank, said: "Travel insurance is essential for anyone going abroad, even if they are just planning a long weekend.
"The largest number of travellers going on holiday without insurance seem to be the under 24s so we are urging them in particular not to forget travel insurance and to make sure its on their holiday 'to-do' list along with sun lotion."
She added: "By shopping around, you can find quality cover at a competitive price."
Many feel they do not need such insurance, but it is estimated 241,000 travel insurance claims for medical or hospital care alone and medical care abroad can be very expensive.
