20 Mar 2006
People seeking a truly unique and exciting adventure abroad should head to China.
The country has been named top in a poll of the most intrepid holiday destinations.
The survey by Intrepid Travel also put Asia as the continent people most associated with adventurous holidays.
Jen Bird of the travel firm said: "The growth of China's international presence as a safe, accessible destination has translated into a huge influx of travellers to the area.
"Intrepid's survey shows how the magic of the Middle Kingdom is still very much alive, conjuring images from towering limestone karsts to the deserts of the Silk Road."
Throughout the massive country there is much to see, whether you want to head out on your own on an adventure or prefer a little more luxury when taking in modern cities, lands where nomads reign or rural bazaars.
All who head to China cannot fail but be impressed by such sights as the Great Wall of China, the Forbidden City or the Qin terracotta warriors.
