Herring troubles in Norway
3 May 2006
The Norwegian town of Floro each year celebrates its catches of herrings with a massive food and culture festival, this year on 16 June.
The centrepiece of the festival is 400-metre dining table that is laid out on the town's main street.
All the food and drink is free but along with traditional herrings and vegetables, visitors can find themselves tucking in to banana herring, sour cream herring, fruit herring and yoghurt herring.
Along with the fish, cultural events, including traditional dance and music, help to bring thousands of people to the festival each year.
Floro is also Norway's most westerly town, meaning there are beautiful sunsets over the Atlantic, while the landscape and nature bring many people to the area.
The islands that surround the town include Kinn, which according to legend was the home to a stranded Irish saint who built a church on it. The church on Kinn still stands and holds regular choir concerts.
