Bordeaux shows off its greatest asset
18 May 2006
Bordeaux is synonymous with good wine and best wine can be tasted at the city's wine festival.
From 29 June to 2 July the festival will transform the city with concerts, processions, banquets and markets.
As well as the city opening its doors to wine lovers the chateaux and vineyards of the surrounding Gironde wine country welcome visitors for tours and wine tasting.
Those without the developed senses to fully enjoy wine can also take part in workshops to learn how to identify and pick out the flavours of a good glass of red or white.
Art of the region will also be celebrated with an exhibition of works donated by local collectors on display in the 1,000 sq metre Art and Wine Pavilion.
This year's festival will have an Oriental twist as Bordeaux will be paying homage to its twin city Fukuoka in Japan with Japanese performances, food and wines ready to be experienced in a specially erected pavilion.
The culmination of the festivities comes with a massive fireworks display over the river Garonne, preceded by a concert from artists from around the world.
