Eurovision win puts Finland on the map

25 May 2006

Finland's costumed Eurovision winners Lordi are helping to put the country on the tourist map.

Following the win, tickets for the Sauna Open Air Metal festival in Tampere from 8 to 10 June where Lodi will perform have started to sell at unprecedented numbers and the Finnish Tourist Board are putting on special heavy metal tours.

Finnish Tourist Board director Anne Lind said: 'Lordi and their song, Hard Rock Hallelujah, have certainly helped strengthen Finland's position on the rock music map.

'They join an array of top-calibre bands such as HIM, Nightwish and Rasmus whose music enjoys world-wide acclaim.'

She went on to explain that the choice of music in Finland is not limited to rock and metal, with nearly 80 music festivals taking place in the country over the summer, covering all genres from classical to pop.

'At the other extreme, of course, is the silence of the Finnish countryside and the wonderful opportunity to be at one with nature. A summer break in Finland offers time and space to relax and rejuvenate amid the lakes, forests and fells which provide some of Europes most stunning scenery,' she added.

Hosting the 2007 Eurovision song contest will also provide Finland with the opportunity to show off to the rest of the continent what it has to offer visitors.
