New style Viennese dance
30 May 2006
This summer Vienna, usually the home to the more traditional waltz, will host a festival of modern dance.
The ImPulsTanz Vienna International Dance Festival runs from 13 July to 13 August with a series of performances from around the world.
Highlights include Antony Rizzi's The Role I Should Have Done where dancers appear on stage covered in paper and Mathilde Monnier's moving Frere et Soeur.
For visitors to the festival inspired by what they see, there is also the chance to get involved at one of the series of workshops designed to suit all abilities and all styles of dance from hip hop to ballet.
There will also be a number of talks, parties and auditions over the festival, which last year attracted over 30,000 visitors with 40 productions and 160 workshops across ten theatres.
