Sale time in Singapore
1 Jun 2006
This June and July Singapore is offering what it claims is eight weeks of shopping madness with the Great Singapore Sale.
Singapore is trying to encourage visitors by coordinating stores across the city to hold sales offering discounts of as much as 70%.
Over 30 malls and shopping centres and dozens of stores are involved in the mass promotion offering goods that include cut price iPods, clothes, furniture and luggage, which might prove useful if plenty of bargains are snapped up.
A series of competitions and prize draws for cars, cash and jewellery have also been organised, with the highlight being the Shopping Challenge, where international teams of shoppers will have the chance to win thousands of pounds by finding the best bargains.
The city has also organised late night shopping and special Mercedes taxis to help carry the bargain hunters and their purchases back to their hotels.
July also sees the Singapore Food Festival, which showcases local delicacies with local chefs, restaurants and foods with a series of dining balls, workshops and demonstrations.
