Jazz sur le pont d'Avignon
16 Jun 2006
The French town of Avignon hosts a jazz festival, bringing together some of the world finest musicians in some grand venues.
The festival runs from 28 July to 5 August and besides the top quality performers covering all genres from traditional jazz to Latin jazz - one big attraction is the venues.
Concerts take place at the Palais des Papes the papal palace and the Cloitre des Celestins a former monastery - which both originally date back to the 14th century, and are two of the city's most historical sites.
Avignon, north of Marseilles, once known as the second Rome for its great architecture, is perhaps best known for the children's song.
The St Benezet bridge le pont d'Avignon was originally built in the late 1100s and is now a symbol of the city.
