Two months of shopping in Hong Kong
16 Jun 2006
Hong Kong is preparing itself for the city's shopping festival.
Over 7,500 different stores will be taking part in the Hong Kong Shopping Festival, which not only offers visitors a huge range of places to shop, but also many discounts and around £200,000 worth of prizes.
The organisers have tried to strike a balance between the different shops on offer between the open-air markets and the city's shopping malls and department stores.
Research shows that short-haul visitors to Hong Kong tend to head to the trendier boutiques and department stores that are on offer, while visitors from further afield usually choose the markets and small shops that specialise in Chinese specialities.
To take the shoppers minds off their credit card bills, a series of firework displays will be taking place as well as Aqua Fantasia, a multimedia water show, in which colourful images and words appear from a water curtain.
