Air Berlin wins best no-frills title

21 Jun 2006

Air Berlin has been named the best low-cost airline in the world.

The airline regained the title of best low-cost airline in Europe and also scoped the title in the world-wide category in the Skytrax awards, which are based on the views of 13 million passengers around the world.

Joachim Hunold, Air Berlin chief executive, said: 'Low-cost travel will only become more popular, and that means more competition.

'We always wanted to stand out from the rest with our high levels of customer service, and that is starting to feed back to us from surveys such as Skytrax. We are really delighted to have gone one better than last year and scooped the worldwide award as well."

Skytrax, in its evaluation of the airline, said it 'demonstrated that low-cost does not need to equate to lower standards of customer service, delivering a quality level across their route network that many of the major legacy airlines in Europe would be happy to achieve'.
