Vancouver lights up
22 Jun 2006
This summer the skies of Vancouver will be illuminated by the world's largest fireworks competition.
Teams from around the world will come to the city to demonstrate their pyrotechnical skills with a series of 25 minute displays over the waters of English Bay in the HSBC Celebration of Light.
Each year around 1.5m people look up to enjoy the best new techniques at the free shows and this year displays will be on 26 and 29 July and 2 August, with a special grand finale on 5 August.
Music to accompany to the displays will be broadcast on a local radio station.
After the ringing from the audience's ears has cleared, Vancouver goes on to host its own music festival from 7 to 9 August.
Festival Vancouver features over 50 concerts of jazz, classical and world music, with this year the twin themes being Mozart and the music of Italy.
