Getting medieval in France

23 Jun 2006

The 13th century comes to the 21st century in the French village of Bannegon.

In the Loire Valley, the Bannegon Medieval Days, now running for the tenth year, use the nearby imposing castle, complete with moat, and preserved village to take visitors back in time.

A series of events take place on 12 and 13 August from demonstrations of medieval warcraft with catapults showing off their flinging power and archery to banquets.

Workshops in arts and crafts of the periods are laid on and the castle's kitchens are opened to show how banquets 700 years ago were prepared.

Knights in armour are set to head to the festival from all around France to take part in the jousting tournaments and entertainment will continue with traditional music and dance.

The organisers expect over 500 people to take part in the event and to attract 10,000 visitors.
