Australian working holiday visas to change

Travellers heading to Australia on a Working Holiday Maker (WHM) Visa will now get increased work and study rights.
From July this year, the WHM will allow travellers to work for any single employer for six months, instead of the previous three, and the length of study is to be increased from three to five months.
Backpackers working in several key industries, including fishing, shearing and forestry, will also be eligible to apply for a "second" visa, thus extending their trip from 12 months to 24.
Oonagh Baerveldt, spokeswoman for the Australian Visa Bureau, said: 'The ability to work in the same job for 6 months means travellers can choose to be transient or settled whereas before they were looking for a new job every 3 months.
'This "new and improved visa" is ideal for travellers who are looking for a career change and want to spend some time studying and some time gaining practical experience.'
The visas are available to Brits aged between 18 and 30 with no dependent children.
A third of all WHMs are given to British visitors, with students, gap year travellers and those looking for a career break accounting for the majority of those applying.
