28 Jun 2006
Dubai International Airport was named the fastest growing airport in world this week.
Figures from the International Airports Organisation (IAO) reveal 20 per cent more passengers flew from Dubai in the first six months of this year.
The growth means that 30 per cent of all visitors to the Middle East travel through Dubai International and it expected that 30 million travellers with use the airport by the end of the year.
The Dubai civil aviation authorities expect the airport to be capable of handling 70 million passengers when its £2.6 billion expansion is completed and by 2011 it will be larger than Heathrow.
Currently 111 airlines fly from Dubai to 165 destinations and by 2011 it will be larger than Heathrow.
