Terminal 5 aims for five star services

29 Jun 2006

Heathrow Terminal 5 is set to open with luxury at the fore.

Harrods is reported to be in talks with the airport authorities to open a small department store which will act as a centrepiece for the new terminal.

Other stores which are lining up to take the central space are believed to include Selfridges and Harvey Nichols.

Harrods already has stores in other Heathrow terminals, which mostly sell souvenirs, but a new outlet in Terminal 5 would focus more on fashion.

Colin Hargrave, managing director of the airport operator BAA, refused to confirm Harrods would take the central retail space, but told Drapers Record: 'Harrods is an important business partner of ours and we have Harrods stores in a number of our terminals already.'

The upmarket feel of the new terminal will continue with a restaurant run by Gordon Ramsay, who is one of only three chefs in the UK to hold three Michelin stars.
