Free music and cinema in Brussels

3 Jul 2006

Brussels' PleinOPENair festival offers free concerts and open air films this August.

The festival runs from 16 August to 3 September and every Friday and Saturday over the period events will be held at different venues around the city.

PleinOPENair is run by Brussels's avant-garde cinema Nova and aims to showcase and launch films which would not usually find an audience and dig up old classics that have been unfairly forgotten.

Films tend to be shown in usual and unexpected places, for example on the sides of buildings or in pubs, and details are usually only released at the last moment.

The avant-garde theme continues as the festival includes a series of art installations from some of Europe's most controversial and newest artists.

All events, from the exhibitions to the concerts are free, forming part of the organisers' philosophy of spreading the art, music and films which they believe should have a wider audience.
