Hungary for music

3 Jul 2006

This year's Sziget festival will see Radiohead, Franz Ferdinand, Scissor Sisters, Placebo, Morrissey and the Prodigy all playing on an island in the Danube.

Hungary's premiere music festival includes 13 stages and hundreds of performers covering all genres from heavy metal to music for children.

The broad appeal brings over 100,000 people from across Europe to Budapest's Sziget Island - a former shipyard.

Bands also heading to Budapest for the festival include Gomez, Iggy & The Stooges, Ministry, Therapy? and Fear Factory.

Besides the music, festivalgoers can also take part in or just watch a number of extreme sports, beach volleyball and football.

In a break from usual music festivals, Sziget's dance tent offers ballet, opera and modern dance.

This year the festival runs from 9 to 16 August.
