New York's square summer
3 Jul 2006
New York's' Union Square Park celebrates the summer with a series of free events.
The programme for Summer in the Square 2006 includes concerts, dancing, yoga and story telling every Wednesday afternoon in July and August.
The events are organised by a local community group, the Union Square Partnership, and visitors from around the neighbour, the city and the world are all welcomed along.
Each Wednesday brings three performances starting at 12:30 and finishing around 20:00, and the line up this year includes swing bands, salsa, Irish dance, ballet, jazz and hip-hop.
Union Square is located just off Broadway towards the south of Manhattan, so the event brings a broad selection of people to enjoy what is on offer.
The Union Square district of the Big Apple is home to some of the city's best restaurants and shops, including both big name chains and individual boutiques, and a number of theatres.
