All change to Manchester Airport

18 Jul 2006

The rail link to Manchester service now has a new fleet of trains.

As a part of a £250m investment programme the new trains started service this month on the South TransPennine Manchester Airport to Cleethorpes route.

From the end of July all trains on the service will be from the new fleet.

The railway station at the airport has also undergone a £125,000 refurbishment with improved waiting areas and café.

Vernon Barker, managing director of First TransPennine Express, said: 'It is great to see all the investment at the airport, which is our fastest-growing destination.

'The number of rail passenger journeys to the airport station increased by more than 15% last year and these new trains will bring a real change to the quality of service we can offer.'

From December, the new trains will be running on the Manchester Airport to Barrow in Furness, Windermere and Blackpool North service and by January 2007 51 of the 100mph trains will be in service.
