BA Gatwick strike threat averted

British Airways and unions representing 1,800 Gatwick-based cabin crew have reached an agreement over working practices.
The deal to bring together cabin crew operations for longhaul and shorthaul was backed by a ballot of union members and it is hoped it will save the airline £13.2 million a year.
Willie Walsh, British Airways chief executive, said: 'This agreement will remove duplication and introduce more efficient working practices, while maintaining standards of customer service.
'It is an excellent example of how all of us in British Airways can work together to recognise that the industry has changed, face up to the new realities, and get ourselves in shape to take on and beat the competition.'
It is hoped passengers will not experience any difference in service once the changes have been introduced.
