Michael Douglas shows basic jellyfish instinct

19 Jul 2006

Basic Instinct star Michael Douglas has been stung by a jellyfish while holidaying with his family in Majorca.

The star who owns a villa on the Spanish island was swimming in the Mediterranean when the jellyfish struck.

Douglas explained how his five-year-old son Dylan helped him out.

He said: 'I took my kids down to the ocean the other day and we had a little problem - we have jellyfish. I got stung actually pretty bad, across my back just last week. There's sort of a remedy that we've all heard...urine. It's the remedy if you have a bad sting.

'So I asked my five-year-old son if he would pee-pee on my back.'

'I don't know if it helped at all, but my son was happy. We'll work it out in 20 years (when he's in therapy)!'the actor is quoted as saying.

For travellers heading to Majorca concerned about jellyfish, the tip is to get local advice as jellyfish tend to shoal in particular areas and avoid others.
