Cambodia to restore 800-year-old temple

The Cambodian government has announced a project to restore a 12th century temple.
Prasat Ta Prohm temple 32km from the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh was built, according to legend, by a king who fell in love with a local girl, although archaeological evidence suggests it is on the site of a sixth century shrine.
The Archeological Survey of India is set to take control of the project which was announced this week jointly by Indian and Cambodian tourism ministers.
The temple walls enclose an area of 650,000 square metres and the project to protect the temple is made harder as the forest that once surrounded it has long since taken over.
Roots to silk cotton trees have grown over the walls threatening some areas with collapse.
The reconstruction work will focus on the central area of the temple know as the Third Enclosure and the Hall of the Dancers.
