Holiday hotspots highlighted
25 Jul 2006
Thailand is head of the league for giving visitors stomach illness and lost bags.
The findings come from data from insurance claims that have helped to highlight some of the world's holiday hazard hotspots.
Behind Thailand in the top five destinations to lose belongings were Mexico, the Caribbean, Australia and New Zealand.
While for gastric problems, Egypt, the Caribbean, Mexico and South Africa were behind Thailand.
Other holiday hazards that travellers should be wary of were bites and stings in the Caribbean and Greece, sun exposure in Mexico and pick pocketing in the Czech Republic.
Katarina Molotova, trade manager at the Czech Tourism UK, hit out at the findings from Aviva that paint a less than favourable picture of the Czech Republic.
She said: 'Of course, they are not true.'
She also gave advice on how to avoid falling foul to crime on holiday.
'We make sure to tell people before going to change money in banks and be careful on the underground,' she said.
