The Latin American country of Belize is aiming to make sure tourists have secure and safe holidays.
Belize is increasingly popular with British tourists as it is the only Latin American country where English is spoken and it remains a member of the Commonwealth.
Last week the Belize tourism board held a workshop on safety and security to help the industry take on any doubts that might put people off the nation.
Around the major resorts of the country at Placencia and the islands off the coast in the Caribbean Sea security has always been good, but some doubts remain about regions of inland Belize where tourism is not too common.
The tourism board is now to establish a tourism security task force to find ways improve safety for tourists within the remote destinations in Belize.
The British settlement on Belize was first established in the 16th century by shipwrecked sailors and pirates. However, the country holds temples and archaeological remains dating back to the Maya civilisation around 2,000 years ago.
