Manchester gets shopping boost

3 Oct 2006

Travellers passing through Manchester airport are to benefit from improved shopping facilities.

All three terminals are to be given new duty-free shops, with around £8m set to be spent on the project.

Specialist airport retailer, Alpha Airports Group, has agreed a ten-year deal with the airport to install the improved shopping areas.

Part of the project will see Terminal One expanded with one of the biggest airside duty and tax-free shops in the UK put in place.

Terminal Two will also be upgraded to improve its shopping layout, while Terminal Three's variety of shops will be expanded.

'The plans will allow us to introduce more sophisticated services, such as spa beauty treatments and food sampling services, into our retail areas so that passengers can relax and enjoy their time in the airport before they board their planes,' said Rowena Burns, group commercial director for Manchester Airports Group.

Airports are gradually becoming more and more consumer friendly, with the emphasis on customer needs becoming increasingly important.
