Tourists becoming more snap happy

27 Oct 2006

Tourists are taking more photographs while abroad than at any other time, with the advent of digital cameras the likely cause.

Research by esure Travel Insurance found that in the last five years the number of pictures taken while on vacation has doubled.

The study focused on the habits of UK tourists and found that a fifth of travellers admit to taking over 100 photographs while abroad with 3% taking over 300.

Around 73% of people say they take a digital camera with them when they go on holiday, while standard film cameras are being ditched.

'Not that long ago filling hand luggage with camera film was a top priority for holidaymakers,' said esure's head of travel insurance, Jacky Brown.

'Nowadays, all they need to remember is an additional memory card.

'People rely heavily on their digital cameras, camcorders and mobile phones to make a record of their holiday,' she added.
