Cruise for the rich and beautiful

14 Nov 2006

Beautiful scenery is often one of the key requirements for many tourists while taking a holiday, but a new cruise service in China has taken that prerequisite to a whole new level.

The cruise, designed to encourage match-making between singles, will only allow a very specific type of person onboard.

Men wishing to take the trip along the Huangpu River in Shanghai must prove that they are worth at least $250,000 (£132,000), while women must fit the bill of being "good looking and desirable", reports the China Daily.

The cruise's organiser, Xu Tianli, has revealed that more than 20 men have already signed up for the trip, with half of those said to be worth at least $25m (£13.1m).

It seems female passengers are finding it more difficult to get onboard, with only 30 of the 1,000 applicants being deemed desirable enough to take the cruise.

'Only those who were attractive in every category can take part in this event,' Xu said,

'Rich men are normally very busy, and most of the women they meet are there for work or business, which these men consider to be unsuitable for relationships,' he added.

Let us hope the water is not as shallow as the passengers onboard.
