Travel photography awards

1 Dec 2006

The Travel Photographer of the Year (TPOTY) competition has come to an end and British photographers have reigned supreme.

Four out of the six awards, including the overall winner, were from the British Isles and some of the photographs are exquisite.

The overall winner was Julian Love, whose portfolio wowed judges and left them in no doubt about who to give the award to.

His prize for being named TPOTY 2006 is, among other things, a fantastic trip to Mozambique and South Africa, where he is sure to take even more stunning pictures.

The Young TPOTY award went to 16-year-old Robert Dziabel, who was recognised for his black and white images of Leipzig Railway Station.

Other winners were Andre Lichtenberg in the Wild Portfolio category, Judith Jones for her Streetlife photographs, Peter Hendrie for Iconic images and the Festival award went to Karoki Lewis.

'We had another huge and fascinating selection of entries this year,' said organiser Chris Coe.

'Black and white portfolios won two of the categories, while panoramic images came top in two others, with European destinations, London, Rome and Paris, amongst the star locations featuring in winning portfolios.'
