Heathrow's biometric trial

Passengers passing through Heathrow airport are being asked to take part in a trial of new biometric technology.
Staff at the UK's busiest hub will be asking visitors to have their passports scanned and to give a fingerprint.
This information will then be used as a passenger's virtual key, meaning they can gain access to security control and aircraft boarding using just their fingerprint.
People taking part in the scheme will be required to have a number of biometric checks, including finger prints, eyes and facial.
'Biometric ID systems are fundamental to securing our borders in a more mobile age,' said the minister for immigration Liam Byrne.
'They are crucial to our plans for counting everyone in and out of the country. This proof of concept shows just how well the technology can work.'
The scheme can also be used to share information between airports before a passenger has landed. A similar system is already in use in Australia, Bahrain, Kuwait and New Zealand.
