Scotland's plans for the new year

6 Dec 2006

Scotland is gearing up for the new year and people taking a city break in Glasgow have got plenty to look forward to.

The fun begins on 17 January when the Celtic Connections Festival kicks-off 2007 in style.

The event takes place every year and is a chance to sample some of the wonderful sounds of Celtic music.

Organisers have billed it as not only the UK's premier Celtic music festival, but also the largest winter music festival of its kind.

Over 240 events take place within the festival over 19 days and every evening ends with an unplanned-performances night in the late-night festival club.

February sees the Glasgow Film Festival, with over 90 films on show over a period of ten days.

In 2006, 10,000 people attended the event and this year promises to be just as popular with a host of films from across the world on display.

Food is also important to the Scots and this is reflected in Dine Around, an event aimed at promoting local Scottish cuisine.
