Melon festival in Australia
4 Jan 2007
Melon fans from across the world will be heading to Australia for the Chinchilla Melon Festival in February.
This year is a special event as attendees will also be given the chance to enter the Guinness Book of World Records.
Organisers of the Queensland-based festival are trying to arrange a record attempt, which will see one person become the champion of melon smashing.
There is a twist however, with the challenge focussing on who can smash the most watermelons with their head in one minute.
'They can bend over and smash the watermelon with their head,' Perry Bacon from the festival's organising committee told ABC News.
'It's not tossed in the air, no, they actually head butt the watermelon for want of a better word.
'We saw a gentleman have a go at the world record on television earlier last year and we've got some people here that are keen to try and beat that record,' he added.
The current record stands at 36 melons.
