David Beckham lives American dream

12 Jan 2007

The world's most famous football player has announced that he will be moving to the United States.

David Beckham has signed a deal which will make him the star attraction at Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy.

Rumours were rife that the player would be moving to the states, when his wife Victoria Beckham was seen house hunting in the country during a recent holiday.

The 31-year-old former England captain will not leave Spanish club Real Madrid until the end of the season, but when he does he is sure to receive a great reception in America.

The star will be earning an incredible £500,000 every week, including image rights, but says he is not joining LA Galaxy for the money.

'I didn't want to go there at 34 years old and for people to say he's only going for the money. It's not what I'm going out there to do,' said Beckham.

'I want to take soccer in the US to another level. I think it can go higher in America than anyone can believe.

'Soccer is huge all around the world except in America and that's where I want to make a difference with the kids,' he added.

Beckham said that playing alongside French star Zinedine Zidane was the highlight of his career.
