Manchester gets super-casino

30 Jan 2007

Travellers taking a holiday in the UK will soon be able to visit the country's first ever super-casino.

Manchester has been chosen as the venue for the Las Vegas-style casino, which officials hope will attract millions of visitors every year.

The casino is set to be the size of a football pitch and will feature up to 1,250 unlimited jackpot machines.

Manchester beat off competition from the likes of Greenwich, Blackpool, Cardiff and Glasgow to get the super-casino.

As well as the gambling hub, Manchester City Council also plans to incorporate a multi-purpose arena, a swimming pool, an urban sports venue, a hotel, restaurants, bars and a nightclub into the site.

In addition to Manchester, a host of other locations in the UK have also been given licences to build casinos.

Great Yarmouth; Kingston-upon-Hull; Leeds; Middlesbrough; Milton Keynes; Newham; Solihull and Southampton will all get large casinos.

Smaller casinos will be built in Bath and North East Somerset; Dumfries and Galloway; East Lindsey; Luton; Scarborough; Swansea; Torbay and Wolverhampton.
