Thailand has been named as the best Asia/Australasia destination at the Irish Travel Trade News (ITTN) Awards in Dublin.
The country saw off competition from Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Malaysia and the award was accepted by representatives from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) London.
Around 650 key tourism figures were present at the awards in the Irish capital, and TAT London's director was visibly delighted with the result.
'This is fantastic recognition for Thailand and I would like to extend my thanks to the Irish travel trade, without their support this would not have been possible,' said Tanes Petsuwan.
The awards were handed out after tourist industry professionals cast their votes in 26 categories.
It is the second time that Thailand has been recognised by the ITTN and is just another signal of how popular the country has become among tourists in recent years.
Figures from the UK and Ireland alone show a 10% increase in tourist arrivals between January and April 2006.
