English cottages win awards

Many travellers enjoy staying in a cottage during a break in England, as they try to get a taste of the country's beautiful countryside.
Now, the five holiday cottages opened by English Heritage have been given the ultimate accolade by VisitBritain.
The self-catering holiday homes have each been awarded a five-star rating by the judging panel, who commented that the cottages have 'exceptional standards' throughout.
The five cottages, located in St Mawes, Mount Grace Priory, Witley Court, Audley End House, Battle Abbey and two in Walmer Castle, have only been open for a year, but are already proving to be very popular.
English Heritage has restored old buildings, offering guests a mixture of luxury and history, which it claims cannot be rivalled.
'We have invested heavily in ensuring the cottages meet the highest possible standards of comfort,' said Rob Parkes, head of property development at English Heritage.
'The result is holiday cottages that are as enjoyable to visit inside as the fascinating historical sites at which they are situated. We are working towards achieving the same accolade for our new properties.'
Plans are in place for eight new properties to be added to the organisation's portfolio throughout 2007.
