Mel Gibson to film in Panama?
7 Mar 2007
Tourism officials in Panama are hoping that Hollywood actor and director Mel Gibson will film his latest movie in the country.
The star is said to be considering the region for his next film and authorities believe that if he does, it will boost visitor numbers in the country.
Ruben Blades, a singer and tourism spokesman in Panama, is said to have had lunch with Gibson on 4 March and the pair discussed the possibility of making a movie about Spanish explorer Vasco Nunez de Balboa.
Balboa is said to be the first European ever to see the Pacific Ocean from its eastern shore and the movie would be a remake of 1950s film Panic in the Streets.
The Panama Tourism Bureau has revealed that Blades also spoke with Gibson about his experiences filming Apocolypto in the jungles of Veracruz.
