Virgin hosts mile-high film festival

Virgin Atlantic is taking the film festival to the skies after reaching an agreement with the National Film and Television School.
The airline is to show 14 short films as part of its in-flight entertainment package, with passengers given the chance to vote for which one they think is the best.
The three films with the most votes will remain as part of the entertainment package for a further three months, while a panel of judged will choose which of them is awarded the top prize.
First prize involves the reward of two tickets to fly with Virgin Atlantic and the chance to have their second film broadcast onboard future Virgin flights.
'Virgin Atlantic has a reputation for award winning in-flight entertainment, offering a wide variety of independent films and documentaries in addition to the cinema blockbusters,' commented Lysette Gauna, head of brand for Virgin Atlantic.
'Through this new initiative our passengers will not only get a chance to see the best in new filmmaking but they will also help the celebrity judges give the next Mike Leigh or Shane Meadows their first step up the ladder.'
The judging panel is made up of actress Brenda Blethyn, actor Nick Moran, Stephen Woolley, former chairman of the British Academy, and Sue Lion, from the Encounters International Short Films Festival.
