Online check-in best for business travellers
2 Apr 2007
Checking in online before travelling is increasingly popular with business travellers, a survey from Barclaycard Business has found.
Traditional desk service remained the most commonly used method of checking in in 2006, accounting for 76% of customers.
But online check-in and check-in conducted by mobile phone were chosen by 42% of customers last year a 7% rise on 35% in 2005.
Nevertheless, self-serve check-in desks remained rather more popular, serving 58% of customers, up from 53% in 2005.
'It is not surprising that many are taking advantage of new ways to check-in,' Denise Leleux, director of commercial cards at Barclaycard Business, commented.
'Business travellers want to reduce the hassle of travel as much as possible,' she went on.
Barclaycard predicts that the 'trend towards online check-in' will 'continue in the coming years' as business people seek to maximise efficiency by cutting down on time spent in the airport before take-off.
A flurry of airlines including Monarch, Ireland's Air Aerann and the Isle of Man's Manx2 have recently announced the introduction of online check-in, while the next generation solution of checking in via mobile phone has come to Scandinavian Airline customers.
