World traveller rocked on return
2 Apr 2007
A Yorkshire man who took time out from the daily grind to travel the world returned home to find his kitchen gutted by burglars.
The Dewsbury man had seen the sights of New Zealand, Australia, Thailand and the USA on his travels, but nothing prepared him for his homecoming.
James Elstub found that the thieves had made off with not only all his implements and electrics oven included but even his kitchen's fittings.
The cupboards and wall units had all vanished as had the kitchen sink.
That was the final straw: 'The burglary felt like a complete invasion,' James Elstub revealed.
'The criminals must have been bold,' he added, noting: 'It would have taken considerable time to strip the kitchen.'
Happily, his £3,000 claim for the losses was met by his insurers.
The round-the-world trip Mr Elstub enjoyed is an increasingly popular form of getaway for gap-year travellers and older people taking a career break, with travellers often purchasing a single ticket to cover a series of flights.
