Bloc Party to soak up the Icelandic chill

UK guitar pop group Bloc Party and the inexpressibly innovative '!!!' (pronounced chk chk chk) have confirmed they'll headline at the Iceland Airwaves festival this October.
Bloc Party will be stopping off in downtown Reykjavik in the course of their apparently unending world tour to play at the festival which shot up in many music lovers' estimation last year when the Kaiser Chiefs played alongside We Are Scientists.
The more eclectic of the Icelandic bands named so far among the 170 acts which will grace the ninth annual festival, held over five days in late October, include the fantastically named Jeff Who?, 2006's surprise hit Ultra Mega Technobandio Stefan and electronica upcomers mum.
US components thrown into the mix include Of Montreal and Best Fwends.
Travellers able to look beyond Glastonbury to the autumn's musical calendar should book early, since Icelandair is currently offering special packages which comprise a pass to the gig, flights and accommodation.
Finally, if the name is proving offputting, Iceland in October should be brisk but far from freezing tempting even the cold-averse with temperatures of six to seven degrees.
