Antigua to celebrate 50th Carnival

18 Apr 2007

Travellers who are planning a trip to the Caribbean this summer are in for a treat as Antigua prepares to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Carnival.

People from all over the world descend on the country every year for the biggest party of them all and 2007 is set to be even more special than previous years.

Government officials have put aside £25,000 for the Carnival Development Committee so that the organisation can mark the anniversary in style.

This year's event is running under the logo 'Music. Mas. Fantasy. Come Celebrate our Golden Jubilee' and will celebrate the traditions and beliefs of past and present islanders.

Carnival in Antigua is synonymous with eating, with many local dishes freshly prepared around the island especially for the occasion.

In addition, music plays a huge role in the festivities with an eclectic mix of different styles on offer.

Antigua's 50th anniversary celebrations of Carnival take place between 21 July and 7 August.
