Kent scoops tourism awards

23 Apr 2007

The county of Kent in England has taken home a number of awards at a recent tourism awards ceremony.

The Enjoy England Awards for Excellence were held on 18 April and gave medals to three sites in the county.

Towncentric, a tourism and regeneration centre in Gravesend, was given the top award for a visitor information centre.

In addition, Well Cottage, a self-catering business based in Maidstone, and Chapel Down Winery, a vineyard in Tenterden, both took silver medals.

Towncentric was honoured for its positive impact on Gravesend, both in terms of tourism and regeneration.

'It's a timely celebration of everything Gravesend and Towncentric are achieving,' said Sandra Matthews-Marsh, chief executive of the Kent Tourism Alliance.

'Next month America celebrates its 400th anniversary and Gravesend - with its connections to the early settlers and Pocahontas is sure to be popular with visitors marking the anniversary.'
