Virgin Atlantic Airways has announced that it will be flying to 27 destinations across the world.
Sir Richard Branson's firm will be providing a route from London's Heathrow airport to O'Hare International airport in Chicago.
Once the route is in operation, it will be Virgin's tenth gateway to the US and cements its position as one of the number one carriers between the UK and America.
'Chicago is the third busiest long-haul route out of London and we are thrilled to be launching this daily service today, along with many of our business and leisure passengers who have been asking us to add this important city to our US network for some time,' said Sir Richard.
'With its mix of business hotels and conference centres, and extensive festivals and events, Chicago appeals to all travellers and we have already seen very good forward bookings for the first few months.'
In total, 1.51m travellers have made the journey from London to Chicago but, until now, Virgin has not been serving the route.
