Festival puts the soul into Seoul

The people of South Korean capital Seoul are preparing for the Hi Seoul festival which is due to kick off this month (April).

Residents and thousands of tourists are expected to descend on the city for the celebrations which organisers are promising will have a street carnival atmosphere.

Hi Seoul is designed to celebrate the city's history, tradition, diversity and uniqueness with different events taking place throughout.

Officials say that visitors will be able to enjoy happenings at Gyeongbok, Gyeonghee and Unhyeon Palaces, Bukchon, Insa-dong, Seoul Plaza, along the Hangang River and at many other landmarks.

Things kick off on 27 April with a lantern boat parade, a concert and a large fireworks display.

Other events include the Seoul World DJ Festival, the Seoul History Parade, the Seoul Friendship Fair and many more.

The Hi Seoul festival begins on 27 April and runs for ten days.
