Brighton theatre is 200

30 Apr 2007

Theatre enthusiasts planning a trip to the UK may wish to venture to the south coast and experience the 200th birthday celebrations of the Theatre Royal in Brighton.

As one of the oldest working theatres in the country, the Theatre Royal has seen many plays and famous faces in its time.

Actors such as Ingrid Bergman, Marlene Dietrich and Richard Burton have all graced the stage since the theatre's doors first opened in 1807.

A long list of events have been arranged to mark the special occasion, with world-premieres, new productions, special events and large parties taking place throughout 2007.

It all comes to a head on 27 June, the official birthday of the theatre, when the celebrations take over Brighton for a huge street party.

Following the street party, an event called 200 stories for 200 years will take place, where members of the public are invited to share their memories of Brighton and, in particular, the theatre.
