Sydney Opera House tops wonders list
1 Jun 2007
The Sydney Opera House has been voted as one of the seven modern wonders of the world.
The Teletext Holidays poll took on the opinions of around 2,700 Britons and the word-famous opera house took top spot.
It was closely followed by the Eiffel Tower in Paris and Dubai's Burj Al Arab, the world's most luxurious hotel.
The Statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge, the Empire State Building in New York and the Channel Tunnel also made it onto the list.
'Compared with ten years ago holidaymakers are now travelling further afield and this is reflected in their choice of iconic symbols which reflect the modern-day wonders,' said Matt Cheevers, managing director of Teletext Holidays.
Respondents were also asked to list their favourite UK icons, with Big Ben topping the list, followed by the Eden Project in Cornwall and the new Wembley Stadium.
