399 Airbus orders in one day
19 Jun 2007
European aircraft manufacturer Airbus has roared back into popularity following a year of mixed fortunes for the firm.
With serious delays to the manufacturing of the Airbus A380 superjumbo and many airlines choosing to buy Boeing's new Dreamliner, the firm had been looking at a bad year for orders.
However, all of that changed at the Paris Air Show, where Airbus took a total of 339 aircraft orders.
Many of the firm's major jets proved popular but the A380 stole the show, with a number of big clients placing additional orders.
Emirates has signed up for eight more, taking the airline's total A380 order to 55. This was followed by Qatar ordering three more for a total of five and Air France taking two more to make a total of 12.
In total, Airbus is said to have taken orders worth $45.7 billion (£23 billion) and its orders for the year now sit at 420, just 15 aircraft below Boeing.
