It's beer o'clock in Belgium

19 Jun 2007

Beer lovers from across the world will be descending on Flanders in Belgium this summer for a number of festivals dedicated to the historic drink.

The drinking of beer is taken very seriously in Flanders, with every region having its very own proud and ancient method of production.

To celebrate the fact that beer is such a popular drink in Belgium, summer beer festivals are held annually and everyone gets involved.

From large-scale multinational breweries to tiny local ones, the beer festivals of Flanders are a complete mix of styles and tastes.

Some of the more famous festivals include Antwerp Beer Passion Week in June and the Brussels Beer Weekend in September.

Tourists are advised to contact the Belgian Tourist Board to check when the festivals take place and once there, they can get hold of a Beer Route map.
