Snow falls on New Zealand ski resorts

Ski resorts in New Zealand are reporting the first big dumping of the season.
Queenstown has become a winter wonderland and this is great news for anyone who has been itching to get onto the slopes.
Although many resorts had already opened earlier this month, they were being forced to use manmade snow to cover their slopes.
Despite the good quality of the faux snow, every skier is always happier when they are gliding down slopes on the real white stuff.
'This is the first major dump of the season so spirits are running pretty high,' said James Coddington, chief executive officer of Coronet Peak and The Remarkables ski areas.
'Coronet Peak opened on 11 June and skiers and riders have been enjoying excellent manmade snow across the main trails and in the terrain park, but this morning was for the powderhounds,' he said.
'Ski area conditions are improving by the hour as snow continues to fall. There's a wonderful atmosphere around the town… everyone's amped.'
More than 20 centimetres have fallen in the past 24 hours and the snowy conditions are due to continue for the coming days.
