Berlin gears up for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week
25 Jun 2007
Germany's capital city is preparing to host a glamorous and ambitious fashion week, set against the stunning backdrop of the Brandenburg Gate.
The event, organised by IMG Fashion and sponsored by Mercedes-Benz, promises to be one of the most spectacular showcases of contemporary fashion design in recent years, with a number of the world's most important labels confirmed as participants.
On 12 July, when the show gets underway, guests will have the opportunity to feast their eyes on a new collection from Hugo, before huge names including Vivienne Westwood, Puma, Sisi Wasabi and Michalsky unveil their own new creations.
The four-day extravaganza will also act as a further catalyst for Berlin's thriving tourism industry, which was given major impetus last year thanks to the World Cup.
The Brandenburg Gate, in particular, stands as testament to the city's outstanding architecture and provides a suitably impressive entrance to one of Europe's most dynamic and exciting capitals.
Berlin also has an outstanding art scene, which ties in nicely with this year's fashion show, as well as dozens of world-class nightclubs and a plethora of enticing eateries and bars.
For those keen to explore a little further, there are more than 150 museums in Berlin, offering exhibitions covering everything from 13th century art to military history and erotica.
The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week will doubtlessly bring thousands of fashionistas to this vibrant city, ahead of the typically busy holiday months of July and August.
